The Department of English in KMUC started its journey in 1997 with BA Hons courses led by the first ever Chairman of the department Mr. Kawser Hossain. Ever since its inception, the department has been nursing the students with utmost care and attention under the guidance and supervision of a host of devoted faculty members- well-trained in pedagogy, literature and linguistics under such different training institutes across the nation as NU, NAEM, TTC, HSTTI. In such a proud course of its journey, M.A. in Literature program was introduced in 2015. To impart a quality education in true sense of the term, the department is equipped with modern teaching – learning facilities.  It has a Language and Literature Club financed under CEDP (College Education Development Project) equipped with multimedia facilities  where students are given a unique freedom to build up  their career through such activities as speaking and listening drills, extempore speech, literature quiz, drama staging and so forth.

Our academic results have always been an envious one with a few on the merit list every year. It is very necessary to inform that in 2001 Hons. Final Examination, Sultana Zerin, one of our students stood 10th place among all the colleges under National University.

With rapidly evolving technology and the continuous need for innovation, the department has produced quality professionals holding important positions in different pursuits at home and abroad. Also, the department has been able to inspire a few of its learners to hold pen as rhymist, novelist, columnist, essayist and so on. On several occasions, the department has done fairly well in different literary and language competitions held nationally. Mention may be made of the most  recent winning of  the championship  in a rare literary tournament held among as many as 20 colleges within the capital including City college and Dhaka College.
